The Compassion Process®

for Self-Healing and Personal Growth

All that is not love, must transform in the presence of love.

The Compassion Process® is a method developed and taught by Shelly Smith. Its development is the result of almost three decades of exploration, study, and practice of the most powerful, body-based, emotional healing, and release techniques available. Her intention has been to find those methods which promote change at the cellular level which are also the most easeful and practical.
In Part 6 of a 7-part interview, Shelly talks about The Sedona Method and how it, along with some other powerful methods, inspired the creation of The Compassion Process®. (See full interview here).

The Compassion Process®

was inspired by and draws from a variety of excellent methods, including but not limited to:
  • The Sedona Method
  • The Release Technique
  • Focusing
  • The Imago Model of Couples Therapy
  • The Body-Centered work of Drs. Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks
  • Somatic Experiencing
  • Various Mindfulness-Based Practices
How To "Release" Negative Energy

Learn How To

  • Release stress and other negative emotions as you have them
  • Release chronic emotions or emotional states
  • Release what's blocking you from making the changes you want to make
  • Feel more peaceful about just about anything
  • Be more available for creative solutions, new ideas, and Divine Guidance

How It Works

You will learn how to "get grounded", quiet your overactive thinking brain, reconnect with your body, and learn how to hear what your bodymind has to say. You will learn how to listen so that it will reveal feelings that are just beneath the surface of awareness. Once acknowledged, you will learn how to relate to these feelings in a way that invites them to release. Deeper listening often reveals unconscious limiting beliefs which can also be released.

Getting Grounded and Quieting the Mind

In the series of videos on this page, Shelly demonstrates The Compassion Process with a friend and counseling student.

This first video demonstrates how the process typically begins. (Please Note: Due to technical problems this video was cut short. This demonstration session continues with Part One below, but with a gap of several minutes).

Basic Tenets

  • Feelings, thoughts. beliefs, and memories live in the body in what's called the bodymind.
  • The bodymind is the unconscious mind.
  • Feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and memories are made up of energy.
  • Generally speaking, there are only two kinds of energy - the love kind and the non-love kind. You know the difference. One feels good, the other feels bad.
  • Only love energy can convert non-love energy.
  • If you want to free yourself of limiting, non-love energies, you must first access them via the bodymind and then introduce them to the love and compassion that resides within your own beingness.
  • Compassion lives in your heart - not in your head.
“Neuroscience research shows that the only way we can change the way we feel is by becoming aware of our inner experience and learning to befriend what is going on inside ourselves.”  Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D.
Debriefing and Brief Discussion
During the un-taped part of this session, this student volunteers that the issue she wanted to work on was to feel more peaceful and less stressed about her upcoming internship.

This video demonstrates how The Compassion Process helps to "unhook" the core beliefs that are driving our emotions - in a way that's easeful and gentle, and honors the body's inherent wisdom.
