It's one thing to sit
and hear their stories.

It's another to teach them

to help them feel better
about themselves,
and about their feelings.

But there's something else that happens
that's harder to explain

between the words.

others call it God,
but we know it when we feel it

and we'll stop -
with a mutual unspoken agreement
and wait -
fully expecting to hear
a voice in the breeze

or as if
the tinkle tinkle of the creek

will rise

and morph into a song
a message
or a prayer.
